17 PAX were clearly ready to get out of the house and prove they survived the Snowmageddon of 2018! Everyone showed up full of energy and ready to go! Since we had just had a quick melt the day before, the parking lot was pretty much the only clear spot. Thanks to Taxi for driving over and taking a loop around Portside the night before to scope it out for me. Here’s what went down:
Since we were limited to the parking lot and Portside doesn’t disappoint with numbers, I decided it would be best to bring the Battlefield Station Switcheroo Workout on over. It works well for any size group, but especially large numbers because we can spread out and work in small groups.
Warm – Up: Quick toy soldiers while we waited for Taxi who was turing the corner on two wheels. Mosey to Groups and explain the exercises at each station.
There were 3 Groups spread out around the lot, each containing 3 Stations. PAX chose which Group to start, then chose a station. Complete the exercise at the station for 2 minutes, then rotate to the next station. Rise and repeat until you get through all three stations in your group. Then, rotate to the next Group. Group 1 rotated to Group 2, Group 2 to 3, 3 to 1. We made it through all the groups twice – almost – cut the last Group short by 1 (or was it 2? Clearly my brain was deprived of oxygen by this point) to have time for our FNG naming. You can thank Journey at the next workout.
I knew there would not be time for Mary, so each Group had an ab station incorporated in. With the the “great meltdown” the day before, I wasn’t sure how slushy or wet the lot would be, so plank style abs it was.
COT: As Belle always says, FiA is so much more than a workout. Seriously, how awesome is it that these ladies get out here in the dark and encourage and support each other – not just through exercise and strengthening our bodies, but by saying something kind that will last with that person the whole entire day, maybe longer. Really, you may not realize it, but just by being here, your actions during a workout are helping someone else be stronger in body, mind and heart. “Every mountain top is within reach if you just keep climbing.” Don’t give up. You’ve got this.
Social on Thursday, January 18th. Tap Room. 6:30 pm. We would love to see some Portside people there. If you didn’t know, your other FiA sisters from Battlefield, Hugh Mac and Southside would really like to meet you and have a chance to get to know you a bit.
To prove this point, back in December, the Southside crew got a group together, got up early, carpooled, traveled across town and lead a workout on your turf. All to show support for you! One thing went wrong, though. No Portside peeps. They had a wonderful time nonetheless and enjoyed your AO. Pickleback rocked the Q in her normal creative style. Southside hopes, that sometime soon, they can have a redo.
I used the Free GymBoss App and set it for two minute intervals with one minute to switch groups. No rest to switch stations as stations were close enough to each other and we explored them quickly in our warm up.
Thank you to Native for Carpooling with me. 1. It gets you out of bed and there knowing someone is depending on you. 2. 4:45 am is always better with a friend.
Thank you for letting me lead and for showing me that no matter what AO you attend, you can rest assured that you’ve got women in corner – cheering you on, respecting you for who you are, challenging you – without even batting an eyelash. We’re all in this together and I am so happy to a part of our group.
