Running Advent Challenge Day

  • When: 12/17/2018
  • Q: Peloton
  • Pax: Streaker, Glitter, Lighthouse, Napa, Rally Cat, Flyer

Fort Mill Fia’s and enthusiasts nation wide are deep in the middle of what we call Running Advent. A fun challenge where we started on December 1 by running a half mile and then adding .5 to our distance each day until reaching peak day at 6 miles and going back down by .5 each day. So today, Day 17, we had 3.5 festive miles to complete! This challenge has been both a physical and mental test of endurance and determination. Many gals have had to fit in treadmill miles while traveling, super early or late at night, and have stuck with it even through some treacherous weather …. Way to Go Ladies!!!

Today’s workout consisted of 3 sets each which were supposed to be 1 mile. Each set we were given both an action and a thought prompt to consider which coordinated to the challenge days set out by national RA enthusiasts!

Jog to Kingsley

Set 1:

Challenge: Act Like a Kid

  • On your run for this challenge you were supposed to do something only a kid would do.
  • Think about something you used to do as a kid around Christmas time that you no longer do for whatever reason. How can you reignite the Christmas magic this year?
  • 4x [Sprint over bridge (.1) / Jog recover back (.1) ]
  • Tempo (a little faster than your normal running cruising pace) Run around parking lot (.2)

Set 2:

Challenge: Declutter

  • On your run for this challenge you were supposed to pick up litter.
  • What  “litter” can you remove from your life – habit, activity, mindset…?
  • 4x [Sprint over bridge (.1) / Jog recover back (.1) ]
  • Tempo (a little faster than your normal running cruising pace) Run around parking lot (.2)

Set 3:

Challenge: Time

  • You were meant to complete this challenge at a different time than you normally would realizing we have pockets of time that we can utilize better or differently.
  • What is one small thing you can make time for that is “good for your Christmas Soul” ?
  • 4x [Sprint over bridge (.1) / Jog recover back (.1) ]
  • Tempo (a little faster than your normal running cruising pace) Run up to street (.2)

Jog back to cars. Some stopped at 3.5 exactly and walked the rest of the way, I fully support this as my legs are so tired from all the running lately!

In COT we shared a couple of the things we had thought about.

Napa shared one thing she used to do as a kid that brought Christmas magic was playing piano and singing carols at her Grandmothers house.

Lighthouse shared that the “litter” she could get rid of was complaining and instead was going to choose to think of things she was grateful for when she was tempted to complain. Streaker mentioned she was going to let go of having to say yes to everything.

Napa and Flyer shared that they wanted to make more time for reading and devotionals in their day. We talked about how we all have 15 minutes somewhere in our day to make this a priority!

We prayed for Glitter, and Flyer and everyone traveling this season. For unto us is born today a Savior who is Christ the Lord!

A couple more Challenge’s for you to think about! Would love to hear your answers!

-Celebratory Drink. On Peak day the challenge was to treat yourself to a yummy splurge drink! In addition, no one gets along on by themselves. Take time to “toast” or thank someone that has helped you recently.

-Christmas Lights! We are having a Fia Christmas Party/Walk/Run/Ruck this Thursday at Bullseye’s House. BYOB and a snack to share. Wear festive gear, both a 1 mile and a 3 mile option that you can walk run or skip! Starts at 6:30 and would love to see you there. Address on FB!

Thanks for joining me! Last week of RA- YOU GOT THIS!!!

Merry Christmas,

Peleton
