21 Pax came out this morning for a Murph Challenge.  Yes- this was a repeat from my Q last month but I do remember hearing someone say- “We need to do that again!”.  It is definitely a challenge.  Here’s a little background on the Murph:

Named in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, NY, who was killed in Afghanistan June 28, 2005. A United States Navy SEAL officer, Murphy was awarded the U.S. military’s highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan. His other posthumous awards include the Silver Star Medal (which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor) and the Purple Heart.

The “Murph” Hero WOD was originally posted on the CrossFit Main Site as the workout of the day for Thursday August 18, 2005 (050818), where the post said “This workout was one of Mike’s favorites and he’d named it ‘Body Armor.’ From here on it will be referred to as ‘Murph’ in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.”

“Murph” has become one of the most famous CrossFit workouts, especially popular as a tribute on Memorial Day in the US, when the workout is sometimes referred to as “Memorial Day Murph.”

Our Workout- a slight version of a real Murph done in chunks:

Run around the parking lot (Indian run style) X 2

100 Pull ups on the railing or Rows

200 Push-ups

300 Squats

Run parking lot X 2 half way and Run at the end

Stretching

Devo:

I am obsessed with the Greatest Showman music after Dragon’s Q on Monday.  One of the songs is called “Come Alive” which talks about dreaming with your eyes wide open. Here’s the meaning behind it:

Success Secrets: Dream With Your Eyes Wide Open!

We all dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. T. E. Lawrence

Have you ever met someone who seemed to ‘have it all’? Happy and relaxed, a free spirit full of adventure, open to the universe, at ease with the challenges of life… able to cope well with setbacks, yet still somehow achieve all their goals in the various areas of their life – work, play, relationships and family…

I have been fortunate to meet a number of people who fit this criteria and much to my surprise, as I got to know them better, they were not displaying a false facade to the world whilst they were struggling behind the scenes but rather were incredibly hard-working optimistic people who could not only dream up fabulous life goals but also ‘open their eyes’ to do the hard work to turn these dreams into reality!

I love the quote by TE Lawrence (also known as Lawrence of Arabia) which so simply puts forwards one of the mysterious differences between succeeding or failing when seeking to live your dreams and have an amazing life: ‘We all dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.”
