Three lovely ladies beat the snooze button and made it out to our very first early morning workout. Three lovely ladies are stronger, healthier, and I’d bet to say happier because they did so! After a brief look around to pick the best field, we settled on the Astro Turf baseball field. We set up quickly with our weights and towels and got to it!
Four corners here we come! We set up stations at each base and the corners began as follows:
First 10 minute AMRAP – Legs and Booty
Home Plate – Jumping Squats – 20 reps
1st Base – Hip Bridge with leg lift – 20 reps (10/side)
2nd Base – Jumping Lunges or Sumo Squats with leg lift – 20 reps (10/side)
3rd Base – Donkey Kicks – 20 reps (10/side)
Once the 20 reps were completed you could run, bear crawl, walk, crab walk, etc to your next base – we all opted to run because why not!?
Second 10 minute AMRAP – Arms and Chest
Home Plate – Quick Punches with 5 lbs weight – 40 reps
1st Base – Plank Jacks – 20 reps
2nd Base – Tricep Extensions with 10 lbs weight – 20 reps
3rd Base – Push Ups – 10 reps
After the final buzzer, we took two laps around the bases and the circled up for
TABATA abs as follows:
20/10 work/rest intervals for 4 minutes – the eight exercises were:
Hip dips with knee crunch left side
Hip dips with knee crunch right side
Big girls sit ups
Leg drops – or, as we now call them, Queso back crackers
Plank with a twist
Repeat Abs for 8 minutes total
Queso was quick always catching up to us before we finished our station making us push that much harder to keep moving and stay ahead of her. Poppins is push up goals for sure. Girl can knock them out.
While doing the ab routine, we were going back and forth about the name of our new AO. I was thinking alpha related because of Alpharetta and us being the first early morning and was going down the line of dog pack, wolves, etc. Then Queso mentions it should be something early morning related and Poppins chimes in with something about it being bright and early, and the first thing that came to mind, no joke, was Jimmy Dean! I don’t know about you guys, but when I think about women working out in a group early in the morning, the first thing that comes to my mind is a man in a sunshine costume handing out sausage biscuits. And just like that…Jimmy Dean was born.
We had a great chat walking back to the car starting with Poppins commending Queso on the extra effort she put in with her students during the homecoming season. Hearing the care and passion in Queso’s voice when talking about her students made me want to ask for prayers for all our teachers and all they do for us, our children, and all the young lives they influence every day…and…I hope most of them are like Queso, and I think Poppins would agree 🙂
